CARESS THE EARTH

CARESS THE EARTH is an action-video which expresses the position of the human being on earth and the care which it is necessary to bring to it if we want to consider a possible new beginning. The relationship we have with the planet is for the moment violent and predatory.
The point of contact between the biped that we are and the planet is naturally between the soles of his feet and the surface of the earth. In this video, "taking care" translates into a simple and metaphorical gesture. The body walks on floors that must be protected with a pillow. Reversal of poles and scales, the earth rests its head on a cushion. Under the pillow there is the human body which is now like a bed on which the earth and its living species can no longer rest. It is a waking and endless nightmare.
The cushion on which each step of the walker takes place is an artefact on which the head usually rests, which is that of a body at rest and / or asleep. We can also see the pillow as a setting for dreams. It is in fact an intercessor object between two worlds that must be reconciled in the dimensions of dream and reality.
The action of sliding a cushion under each step of the walker is as much a protective device for his feet as the ground he borrows. It is also a device that slows down the progress of walking and shows the apprehensions of the child who tries his hand at first steps. There is no starting over without considering the first gestures.

This action-video was presented at the exhibition of the "Nandur Srawung #7" festival which took place in Yogyakarta on the island of Java in September 2020, on the theme "WIWITAN: RESTART", and at an invitation from Irène Agrivine from the H.O.N.F. collective.

CARESS THE EARTH (Caresser la Terre) est une vidéo-action qui exprime la position de l'être humain sur terre et le soin qu'il faut y apporter si l'on veut envisager un possible nouveau départ. La relation que nous entretenons avec la planète est pour le moment violente et prédatrice.
Le point de contact entre les bipèdes que nous sommes et la planète se situe naturellement entre la plante de ses pieds et la surface de la terre. Dans cette vidéo, «prendre soin» se traduit par un geste simple et métaphorique. Le corps marche sur des sols qui doivent être protégés avec un coussin. Inversion des pôles et des échelles, la terre repose sa tête sur un coussin. Sous l'oreiller, il y a le corps humain qui est maintenant comme un lit sur lequel la terre et ses espèces vivantes ne trouvent plus de repos. C'est un cauchemar éveillé et sans fin.
Le coussin sur lequel se déroule chaque pas de l'arpenteur est un artefact sur lequel repose habituellement la tête, qui est celle d'un corps au repos et/ou en sommeil. On peut aussi voir l'oreiller comme un écrin pour le rêve. C'est de fait un objet intercesseur entre deux mondes qu'il faut réconcilier dans les dimensions du rêve et de la réalité.
L'action qui consiste à glisser un coussin sous chacun des pas du marcheur est autant un dispositif de protection pour ses pieds que du sol qu'il emprunte. C'est aussi un dispositif qui ralentit la progression de la marche et donne à voir les appréhensions de l'enfant qui s'essaie aux premiers pas. Il n'y a pas de recommencement sans considérer les gestes premiers.
